The research center was initiated by the World Class Professor Program in 2019, which was reported to the Ministry of Higher Education and Research as the output of the program. Focus group discussions that involve some stakeholders – researcher, country parts scientists, and government was held to identify the current and future issues to be addressed. A comprehensive discussion among the UNIMMA Engineering Team with Professor partners and other stakeholders was conducted to determine the vision, mission, and goals to be achieved by the CSICE.

To ensure the future collaborative research and researchers development and implementations in fundamental or applied research. Increase innovation through the development of new technology applicable to the circular economy, waste management, smart city. Accelerate the advancement of knowledge to favor the promotion and education of waste management. Strengthen the collaboration with national and international institution, Provide the services and training for industry and stakeholders.
Objective
The general objectives are conducting research, providing service and supervision and training to UNIMMA stakeholders, including industries (Large and SMES), students, government etc. The specific obejctives are:
- Provide direct (i.e., in-person) and/or indirect (e.g., instructional content, tools & templates, etc.) guidance and support to assist industry/SMEs/institutions in implementing the best practices and work standards
- Develop technical and domain deep expertise in the circular economy and sustainability research areas in the area of manufacturing and services
- Identify problem areas to be researched based on the technical, environmental, socio-economic aspects of circular economy activities, and the needs of large and SMEs in associated with sustainability issues and challenges, and develop and validate research solutions addressing the needs.
- Support upscale application of the research/innovations in industry and government institutions.
